After today’s calls for the government to review its policies regarding Child Bullying (27/03/07), parents are asking what can we do to help our children overcome this problem.
Many parents turn to martial arts classes to build confidence, but with so many styles available, which one is the best?
A good question to ask is what are the main teaching principles of the martial arts school near you and what are they offering that is different?
The Choi Foundation, a martial arts training school with venues in Brighton and Hove, believe they have the solution through non-competitive training.
Students are encouraged to train at their own pace and emphasis in put on personal development rather than winning sports trophies.
Valuable and practical self defence skills are taught at every class, but students are also taught the key principles of Choi Kwang Do; Humility, Honesty, Gentleness, Perseverance, Self Control and Unbreakable Spirit.
Most importantly, the Choi Foundation does not teach students just to strike out at bullies, but to talk with their school teachers, parents and martial arts instructors to try and find non-violent resolutions to conflict.
Of course bullying isn’t just about the victim. Often the bullies themselves are struggling to overcome problems and require guidance to help them through difficulties in their early lives. Positive and focussed martial arts training, concentrating largely on self control, consideration of others and concentration skills often help towards putting wayward lives back on track.
